AUDIENCE SUPPORT DECISIONS IN IN THE AFTERMATH OF A SOCIAL SCANDAL: THE ROLES OF LEGITIMACY AND REPUTATION
2014
Constituent audience evaluations and decisions regarding whether to continue to support a corporation after it has been perceived as culpable for socially irresponsible behaviour following corporate social irresponsibility (CSI) scandals are coin of the realm in selecting which firms (or which parts of a firm) will be able to survive a CSI-scandal. Research has largely taken for granted that CSI leads to the loss of corporate legitimacy and, consequently, of constituent audience support. Though legitimacy may be reconstructed, empirics suggest this is a necessary but insufficient condition for the maintenance of audience support. Adopting the evaluators’ perspective, this study focuses on t…
Implementation of IFRS in Japan: An Analysis of Voluntary Adoption by Listed Firms
2019
Since 2010 Japanese listed firms can voluntarily use international financial reporting standards for their consolidated financial statements. Using financial and non-financial data, we carry out a comprehensive research into the adopters’ determinants. We employ a multi-period logit model that considers every annual decision made along the period 2010-2019. We find that the having outside networks through subsidiaries and a strong internal corporate governance system are key factors. We also confirm a contagion effect. Finally, our results suggest that goodwill is also relevant, since only Japanese accounting standards require annual amortization.
“Facts Are Grasped by Us in Pictures (PT, 2.1). Remarks on Pictures and Facts in Wittgenstein’s Tractatus
2023
This paper proposes a (re)reading of the famous section in the Tractatus Logico-philosophicus, 2.1: “We picture facts to ourselves” and its relation to the similar section in the Prototractatus, 2.1: “Facts are grasped by us in images”. We reject the dominant solution that interprets the relation between facts and images as an isomorphic relation and propose that instead it is an internal relation: there are no facts that are not perceived through images. In other words: For us, linguistic animals, there is no world independent of language.

Pattern Matching and Pattern Discovery Algorithms for Protein Topologies
2001
We describe algorithms for pattern-matching and pattern-learning in TOPS diagrams (formal descriptions of protein topologies). These problems can be reduced to checking for subgraph isomorphism and finding maximal common subgraphs in a restricted class of ordered graphs. We have developed a subgraph isomorphism algorithm for ordered graphs, which performs well on the given set of data. The maximal common subgraph problem then is solved by repeated subgraph extension and checking for isomorphisms. Despite its apparent inefficiency, this approach yields an algorithm with time complexity proportional to the number of graphs in the input set and is still practical on the given set of data. As a…
A Polynomial Quantum Query Lower Bound for the Set Equality Problem
2004
The set equality problem is to tell whether two sets A and B are equal or disjoint under the promise that one of these is the case. This problem is related to the Graph Isomorphism problem. It was an open problem to find any ω(1) query lower bound when sets A and B are given by quantum oracles. We will show that any error-bounded quantum query algorithm that solves the set equality problem must evaluate oracles \(\Omega(\sqrt[5]{\frac{n}{\ln n}})\) times, where n=|A|=|B|.
Symmetry-assisted adversaries for quantum state generation
2011
We introduce a new quantum adversary method to prove lower bounds on the query complexity of the quantum state generation problem. This problem encompasses both, the computation of partial or total functions and the preparation of target quantum states. There has been hope for quite some time that quantum state generation might be a route to tackle the $backslash$sc Graph Isomorphism problem. We show that for the related problem of $backslash$sc Index Erasure our method leads to a lower bound of $backslash Omega(backslash sqrt N)$ which matches an upper bound obtained via reduction to quantum search on $N$ elements. This closes an open problem first raised by Shi [FOCS'02]. Our approach is …
About Graph Mappings
2019
Summary In this articles adjacency-preserving mappings from a graph to another are formalized in the Mizar system [7], [2]. The generality of the approach seems to be largely unpreceeded in the literature to the best of the author’s knowledge. However, the most important property defined in the article is that of two graphs being isomorphic, which has been extensively studied. Another graph decorator is introduced as well.
The institutional isomorphism in the context of organizational changes in higher education institutions
2019
This article deals with the institutional theory and isomorphism, from the processes of organizational change in higher education institutions. In a first phase, we analyze, through a questionnaire, the situations and causes of change in higher education institutions (HEI), more precisely in the field knowledge of Physical Education in Colombia. Afterwards, through a multiple case study, we analyze both the pressures of the environment that force HEI to change and the types of isomorphism. The results show the existence of the three types of isomorphism in a process of change where the National and Institutional governments exert coercive pressures. Other HEIs in similar situations exert mi…
The Recomposition of Bureaucratic Forms in Territorial Development. Territorial Engineering and Intermediation in Project Territories
2013
At the heart of territorial processing…
